2014 in Review

Posted on January 22nd, 2015| No comments

A lot of games came out in 2014. Some were good, some were meh, and some were flat out broken, but honestly 2014 was a good year to be a gamer. Sure, there were a lot of duds, but the games that worked shined brighter than a lot of games from the past few years. Here I am going to give a brief review of the biggest games of the year for me. Keep in mind that I only have a gaming PC and an Xbox One,...

Sunday Thoughts: Picking a Path

Posted on March 31st, 2013| No comments

As the new generation of consoles approaches, many gamers are beginning to think about what system they will get. Will you stay with Xbox, or switch to PlayStation? Will you forgo serious gaming and get a Wii U (I kid, kind of)? As a gamer, I myself have begun to question my choices. Granted, at this point any decision is still based on speculation due to no hard facts about Microsoft’s new console....

Sunday Thoughts: The Call of Duty Issue Part 2

Posted on March 24th, 2013| No comments

In November 2012 Call of Duty: Black Ops II sold 7.5 millions copies, making it the highest grossing game of the month. Black Ops II is also the sixth entry in the Call of Duty series to have the same basic gameplay, beginning with Call of Duty 4: Modern Warfare and continuing with every CoD entry since. The issue with Call of Duty is that it has expanded the video game world to include the mainstream....

In October 2003, developer Infinity Ward released Call of Duty, published by Activision. The game was the definitive World War II first person shooter of the time, and it went on to win “Game of the Year” from several different groups in addition to numerous other awards. In the holiday season of 2005, Infinity Ward released Call of Duty 2. A launch title for the Xbox 360 and continuation...

Sunday Thoughts: Gender and Gaming

Posted on February 25th, 2013| No comments

In a 2007 study done by the Entertainment Software Association, 40% of people who play video games are female. That’s almost half! Rather interesting then that the stereotype of a gamer is male. Let’s further break this information down by what console (Xbox 360, PlayStation 3, or Wii) genders play. The primary playing console for females is 9% PlayStation 3, 11% Xbox 360, and 80% Wii....

Sunday Thoughts: Saying Farewell to the Generation

Posted on February 17th, 2013| No comments

In November 2005, the Xbox 360 was released in the United States and Canada. And so began the seventh generation of consoles. This Era of video gaming has been revolutionary for the entire video game industry. For the first time, video games were truly brought to the masses. By the end of 2012, approximately 80 million seventh generation consoles had been sold in the United States alone, and approximately...

In Defense of the Genre

Posted on February 10th, 2013| No comments

In 2005, the first Guitar Hero game was released for the PlayStation 2. Game sales for 2005 alone mounted to $45 million. It was undeniably the first music video game to reach huge audiences, and it launched the industry of music video games that would dominate the scene for several years. I personally never was able to play the original Guitar Hero, but I did play Guitar Hero 2. Guitar Hero 2 was...

Why Activision only cares about what is in your wallet.

Posted on November 21st, 2012| No comments

For those of you who don’t know or can’t keep count, we have just received the ninth Call of Duty game this year. Why? Because Activision cares so much and wants to keep shelling out content for the fans? Nope. They do it because of the money you are willing to spend every year for the same game. “How do you know?” you ask. From previous experience that’s how. For too...

Minecraft vs. Minecraft Copy

Posted on September 14th, 2012| No comments

Minecraft has been available on the Xbox 360 for a while now, but one type of game has been there even longer. The Minecraft copy genre has exploded on the Xbox Indie Games market, and has been there since Minecraft was in the beta stage on the PC. All of these copies are less than a fifth of the price of Minecraft, so it begs the question: Would it be better to get one of those games rather...

5 Reasons Why I HATE Saints Row: The Third

Posted on August 24th, 2012| No comments

Some of you may have noticed that I gave Saints Row 3 an absolutely respectable score of 8/10. I can’t even explain to you how far away from the truth that score really is. I suppose when I reviewed the game I was still blinded by the “OMGITSANEWGAMEANDITSPERFECT!!!” feeling you get when you play through something for the first time. But then you settle down. Weeks later, you realize...
